The pressure to perform is subtle. It inches up on us, slowly convincing us that whatever we’re doing isn’t quite enough. I should be more like Person X who’s doing Y. They say I should be more like Z. By this age I should have accomplished A.
And then we slowly slide away from living our story and try to build our lives based on the pieces we can glimpse of someone else’s story.
But your story is beautiful. Sufficient in all of its utterly unpredictable twists.
Replace I should be more like Person X who’s doing Y with X’s courage inspires me to take action in my own life.
Replace They say I should be more like Z with I choose to live in the present moment of who I am.
Replace By this age I should have accomplished A, with My accomplishments don’t define who I am, who I am is fuel that feeds what I create.
There is no one to measure up to. There is no journey to imitate. Walk your path. Live your story.
